Microbursts Are Just As Scary As Tornadoes

  — Golf ball-sized hail. Intense, gusting wind smashing the ground and spreading out, pushing everything in its way. Torrential downpour making it impossible to see anything farther than an inch away. My god, microbursts are previews for the apocalypse.

This was filmed in Norman, Oklahoma. I’m never going to complain about heat or snow again. Mother Nature, you have too many weapons in your arsenal. [Tornado Titans via@MattHardigree]

Forecasters say St. Louisans should be prepared for a possibly record-breaking two-day heatwave.

Rising humidity could make temperatures today and Saturday feel like 100 to 105 degrees, forecasters say.

Today’s high is expected to hit 96 degrees, which would tie records set in 1895 and 1911, according to meteorologists with the National Weather Service in Weldon Spring.

Dangerous heat and humidity will linger Saturday with highs up to 96 or 97 degrees, forecasters say. Such temperatures would approach St. Louis’ record high set for that day in 1911.

Temperatures and dew points should drop by Sunday, dipping highs back to the low 90s.

Below is three-day forecast for the St. Louis area from the National Weather Service:

Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 96. Heat index values as high as 101. South wind between 7 and 9 mph.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 76. South wind between 5 and 9 mph.

Saturday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 97. Heat index values as high as 100. West wind between 5 and 10 mph.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 74. West wind between 3 and 5 mph.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 91. North wind between 3 and 5 mph.
